“The vast opportunities here attracted me to Toronto. It’s quite tough out there in Europe. Here, I had the chance for a better life and to accomplish my goals. I moved to Canada the fall of 2016. During that time, it was rough. I remember that year cause we had such a bad winter. I was working up north, so it was even colder. Coming from an island that’s usually 20-28 C, it was a transition. The transition was different. I had to learn how to adapt and to live in this country. Thankfully I had my extended family here to always give me support. I think that made all the difference in my Canadian life. Now, I have a partner that I love. I have our own home, making life much easier. I think home is where I feel happy and safe. Madeira will always hold a space in my heart, but Toronto is the place where I’ll be for the rest of my life”
